Eyes on the future for Sixers ahead of KFC BBL|13 Final

The Sydney Sixers have secured another important piece of their future ahead of the KFC BBL|13 Final on Wednesday, with all-rounder Jack Edwards putting pen to paper for the next three years.

Edwards joins teammates Josh Philippe, Todd Murphy and Ben Dwarshuis in re-signing with the club, with the announcement of the trio’s extensions yesterday in the lead up to the competition’s biggest match on Wednesday night at the SCG.

The right-arm quick is set to stay a Sixer for at least another three seasons, signing on until the end of BBL|16.

Joining older brother Mickey at the club in BBL|08, the Northern Beaches product made his debut against long-time rivals, the Perth Scorchers in December 2018.

Making 39 appearances to date, Edwards now has 457 runs and 11 wickets to his name as he looks to cement his status as a full-time all-rounder in the competition.

Taking his first wicket against the Hobart Hurricanes earlier this summer, the quick has gone from strength to strength since, picking up a further 10 scalps for the season, including career best figures (3-24) against crosstown rivals, Sydney Thunder in the Sydney Smash.

Adding to his breakout summer, Edwards has notched 100 runs for the season, making the move back to opening the batting in last Friday night’s Qualifier Final after a summer in the middle-order.

Head of Sydney Sixers, Rachael Haynes said signing Edwards was an important step towards securing the future of the side.

“Jack is a promising young talent and will be a core player for the club for a long time into the future.

“We’ve seen this season what he is capable of. He’s an extremely hard worker and someone who is committed to learning from the coaching staff and senior players around him.

“He’s a great team person and someone his teammates enjoy having around. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come in his future.

“We know how excited our fans are ahead of Wednesday night and we are hoping to bring home the silverware for them.”

The first release of tickets for Wednesday’s KFC BBL|13 Final at the SCG have officially sold out. A final release of tickets will go on sale 12pm on Tuesday, January 23.
