The Titans, officially known as the Multiply Titans due to sponsorship, are a top-level cricket franchise in South Africa. Representing the Eastern Cricket Union and Northerns Cricket Union, their home venues are SuperSport Park in Centurion and Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

Monday, 6 May 2024 marked the turning of a page for Titans Cricket where the Members Council signed the unions’ new constitution into being at the special general meeting, affecting the name change to what is now Titans Cricket Union.

Titans Cricket Union, previously known as Northerns Cricket Union, maintain their status and NPO and their responsibility for all cricket programs in the city of Tshwane, conferred by Cricket South Africa, who are mandated by SASCOC through the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

The union will continue to strive for excellence in their governance and administration of the game of cricket, while upholding the elevated standard it has set for itself in the past having operated under different names.

This is not the first time, the union undergoes a name change and it is often guided by the structure at the mother body or national level.

  • North Eastern Transvaal Cricket Union: 1959 – 1971
  • Northern Transvaal Cricket Union: 1971 – 1994
  • Northerns Cricket Union: 1994 – 2024
  • Titans Cricket Union: 2024

“It’s a new chapter for us and I’m excited by what it will bring. Not much will change operationally under the new constitution and name, and we will remain focused on achieving more as an administration and lifting the standard.” Said Titans Cricket Union CEO Dr Jacques Faul.

The dissolution of Easterns Titans at the end of the 2020/2021 season saw the shift of all professional team functions to Titans Cricket PTY LTD, the company which is also a 50% shareholder in SuperSport Park cricket stadium.

Cricket service functions were carried out by Northerns Cricket Union, the Non-Profit Organisation and operational arm, ensuring a coherent split of responsibilities between professional and amateur cricket.

The change in name from Northerns Cricket Union to Titans Cricket Union brings the two entities, Titans Cricket and Titans Cricket Union, into closer alignment with one another while leaning on the equity the name ‘Titans’ carries in South African cricket.

Titans Cricket Union CEO highlighted the clarity that the new name will bring.

“Everything is a lot more simplified and works in unity this way. Having two entities under the same group that complemented each other but operated with different names and logos could cause confusion; this change puts things into a nice order for us at Titans.”
