Alex Ross is returning to where it all began, rejoining the Adelaide Strikers seven years after he made his Big Bash League debut for the club.
The right-handed batter has signed a two-year deal.
Ross has played 102 matches for three different Big Bash clubs – starting with the Strikers before stints at the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder.
In BBL|05 and BBL|06, Ross made 247 runs at an average of 20.58 in 18 games during his inaugural stint at the Strikers and averaged 28 at both the Heat and Thunder.
Known as the ‘Sweepologist’ for his ability to execute the sweep shot, Ross played half of his matches with the Thunder – 57 – and has notched a high score of 77*.
Ross has also played T20 cricket in the Bangladesh, Caribbean and Lanka Premier Leagues at various times.
Based in Adelaide for majority of the year around his cricket playing and commentating commitments, Ross is excited for the homecoming.
“It’s really exciting to be back at the Strikers and back where it all began,” Ross said.
“I can’t wait to be regularly playing on Adelaide Oval again in front of the best fans in the League.
“It’s a great time to re-join the Strikers, our list is in a really good spot after a great finals run last season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in BBL|14.”
Strikers Interim General Manager Cricket, Shaun Williams, said the Strikers were pleased to recruit Ross back to Adelaide Oval.
“We’ve already seen firsthand what Alex can bring to the team and we are really pleased to be welcoming him back,” Williams said.
“Alex has been incredibly consistent throughout his entire Big Bash career and will provide great stability to our middle order.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Alex back in blue for the next two seasons.”
This announcement comes as the Strikers received Pick Five in the BBL|14 Draft Lottery on Thursday.
A day earlier, the reigning WBBL Champions landed Pick Six in the WBBL|10 Draft Lottery.
Dates and broadcast details for the Draft events will be announced shortly.
