South Australian Cricket Association Vice-President James Orchard will join the Board of Cricket Australia after being unanimously elected at last week’s CA board meeting.

Orchard replaces former SACA Chief Executive Officer John Harnden who stepped down last month May after eight years as a CA director.

A long-serving player and life member of Premier Cricket Club Sturt who also earned selection in SA men’s training squad during his 17-year playing career, Orchard joined the SACA Board in 2019 and was appointed Vice-President in 2022.

He is Managing Director of Adelaide accounting firm Accru Harris Orchard and is currently Chair of SACA’s Finance and Audit and Strategic Cricket Committees.

In 2022, he also joined the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (AOSMA) Finance and Audit Committee and was appointed as an Alternate Director of the AOSMA Board.

As a result of his election as SA’s representative on the CA Board, Orchard will resign from the SACA Board following the next Directors’ meeting on June 24 and step down from his roles with AOSMA.

SACA will soon begin the process to seek applications from members to fill the casual Board vacancy created by Orchard’s departure.

SACA President Will Rayner congratulated Orchard on his appointment to the CA Board and thanked him for the significant contribution he made during his five years as a SACA Director.

“James’ vast experience, both on the cricket field and in the fields of finance and accounting, will be as sorely missed by the SACA as they will be profound assets for Cricket Australia,” Mr Rayner said.

“With a strong background in the game’s grassroots through to high-performance level, James is a great advocate for cricket at a national level and has been heavily involved at a state level for decades.

“The SACA congratulates him on his appointment and looks forward to working closely with him in his new role on the CA Board.”
