The Sydney Sixers have secured hosting rights on cricket’s most iconic day again this summer, with the Big Bash returning to the SCG on Boxing Day in KFC BBL|14.

Hosting traditional rivals, the Melbourne Stars for a third consecutive year, the two sides will go head-to-head in prime time following the first day of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

Confirmation of the Boxing Day blockbuster comes ahead of the release of the full KFC BBL|14 fixture, set for later this week.

The most famous day on the cricket calendar, Boxing Day in Sydney will be turned up a notch this season, with music, food, entertainment and family activities on offer, bringing the Moore Park precinct to life in the heart of summer.

Sydney Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said the club was delighted to be hosting the Boxing Day bash again this year.

“Securing the Boxing Day fixture is such a huge win for our fans. It’s one of the most notable days on the sporting calendar and a privilege for us to host at home at the SCG.

“Boxing Day and cricket are synonymous in Australia, and it really is the perfect opportunity for family and friends to get together, relax, enjoy great food, music, entertainment and soak up the summer weather.

“I have such great memories attending the Boxing Day Test growing up in Melbourne and I would love for our fans in Sydney to start building some lifelong memories of their own at the SCG.”

Built from one of Australia’s most notorious rivalries, the animosity between the cities of Sydney and Melbourne has cultivated one of the league’s fiercest – and most exciting – match-ups over the last decade.

The blockbuster will see some of the competition’s all-time heavyweights do battle, with Melbourne’s big-hitters Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis up against a Sixers bowling attack led by the league’s most prominent wicket-taker Sean Abbott.

Fans can expect additional fireworks this summer, with former Sixers international Tom Curran recently announced to be joining the Stars on a multi-year deal after four seasons in Sydney.

The full KFC BBL|14 fixture is due to be released later this week.
