The Melbourne Renegades have reaffirmed their commitment to the Geelong region with the Renegades’ KFC BBL|14 home opener locked for GMHBA Stadium.

The Renegades will take on the Hobart Hurricanes on 19 December from 7.15pm (local time) in the first of five home matches for the new season.

It extends the club’s strong partnership with Victoria’s largest regional centre and reaffirms its commitment to showcasing Big Bash cricket within the region, with the Renegades hosting 10 BBL games at GMHBA Stadium since January 2018.

In spite of last year’s rain-affected fixture, there have been some thrilling Big Bash cricket staged at Kardinia Park with the likes of home-town hero Aaron Finch and internationals superstar Dwayne Bravo taking centre stage.

This summer’s clash with the Hurricanes won’t be any different with topflight batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk set to partner with new recruit and fellow power hitter Josh Brown at the top of the order for the first time in front of a home crowd.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said:

“We’re thrilled to open our BBL|14 season in Geelong, getting back in front of our passionate members and fans in the area was a huge priority for us and we’re super excited for that 19 December game at Kardinia Park against the Hurricanes,” he said.

“We love playing in Geelong – our efforts to establish a second home at Kardinia Park, showcase Big Bash cricket and build stronger connections with the grassroots cricket within the area is central to the Renegades’ mission.

“We pushed hard to host our first home game of the new season in Geelong and play in front of our passionate fan base.

Our fans in Geelong missed out last year and we want to make it a great show of cricket and entertainment

— James Rosengarten, Melbourne Renegades General Manager

“The Victorian Government, City of Greater Geelong and the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust are imperative to making this all happen and we can’t thank them enough for their support as we gear up for another big season.”

Gerard Griffin, CEO, Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, said:

“Kardinia Park Stadium Trust looks forward to hosting the Renegades to kick-off their season and make up for the disappointment of last year.”

In addition to the Geelong home opener, the club is scheduled to host four home matches at Marvel Stadium with the entire KFC BBL|14 fixture set for release tomorrow (Friday, 12 July).

The BBL|14 fixture release follows the WBBL|10’s fixture reveal on Tuesday. Both fixtures can be found via the melbournerenegades.com.au/fixtures

Renegades memberships will go on sale on Monday, 15 July, with one-game Geelong and Geelong-and-Melbourne home game bundles available.
