About the Role:
We are currently looking for two Umpire Coaches who will be based in their home country. The Coaches will report to the ICC’s Manager – Umpire Coaches, and have two main purposes:
- To performance manage, support, and coach the designated Elite, International, and Development panel umpires and any visiting umpires on assignment.
- To work with the designated Home Boards in the development of training and talent identification strategies for the top domestic umpires in their areas.
Principal Accountabilities:
The successful high-performance management of ICC Umpires (Elite/International/Development Panels) by the Umpire Coach will be measured by the following key accountabilities:
Develop and implement high performance programmes and plans for each of the designated ICC umpires.
- Work effectively with umpires to develop, implement, and monitor annual plans, which may include short and medium-term objectives.
- Regular communication with each assigned umpire.
- Complete pre-series and/or pre-match preparation processes with each umpire assigned and assist visiting umpires.
- Assist and support umpires in any capacity that will contribute to optimal performance of the umpire, including assistance when attending specified matches and outside-of-match training / coaching.
Conduct umpire performance coaching review and reporting.
- Attend specified International Matches to observe and provide coaching observations, to be shared with the umpire and other ICC Umpire Coaches as required.
- Receive match by match self-assessments from ICC umpires and reply accordingly as part of the coaching and development process.
- Conduct post-match/series review with ICC umpires.
- Report on the visiting umpires to their specific ICC Umpire Coach regarding their performance during the series observed.
- Use reports and information to analyse trends and facilitate continual improvement process with ICC umpires.
High performance training and development for umpires.
- Provide directly, or assist in coordinating, any training or professional development for ICC umpires (and including top domestic (TD umpires) where required by ICC), including TV umpire and 4th umpire training.
- Ensure that each ICC umpire is fully versed with the Laws, playing conditions, interpretations, changes to codes / policies, and work with home boards TD umpires to ensure same.
- With other Umpire Coaches plan activities, strategies, and new ideas for training.
- Assist in the development of regular ICC umpire training modules.
- Meet with the relevant board umpire managers from within the Coach’s region or assigned Boards at least twice annually each, to develop and monitor strategic plans for the up-skilling and development of the emerging international umpires identified from the TD umpires and share minutes with Umpire & Referee Manager and other Umpire Coaches.
- Attend and contribute to the ICC Umpire and Referee workshops for the ICC Elite panels and provide training presentations/sessions as directed.
- Assist in the development of identified ICC Development Panel umpires where directed by ICC, with ICC Regional offices or at ICC events.
- Support the Umpire & Referee regional and Home Board workshops as necessary.
Administration & Other Activities.
- Meet quarterly with Manager – Umpire Coaches to review performance based on ICC Umpire Coaching Plan and personal plan.
- Submit weekly updates to Manager – Umpire Coaches and other Coaches.
- Communicate regularly (including monthly online meeting) with other Umpire Coaches regarding performance improvement, activities, strategies, and new ideas.
- Timely and accurate management of administration of affairs including filing, reporting, personal travel and accommodation arrangements, expense processing etc. as required by ICC.
- Support and guide members of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Experience:
- A skilled and successful high-performance official and / or coach.
- Successful application of coaching and mentoring skills, and the ability to tailor make individual professional development plans.
- Proven ability to motivate, stimulate, and inspire.
- An understanding and empathy of the unique requirements of match officials in international sport.
- The ability to successfully establish, maintain, and develop professional relationships in an international context.
- Cross cultural, international, experience.
- Demonstrated self-management and organisational abilities. A self-starter.
- High level interpersonal skills.
- Ability in successfully establishing relationships underpinned with trust and respect.
- Successful umpiring or high performance sport coaching experience (including in other sports) at national or international level will be a distinct advantage.
