Next ICC Meeting to be in Dhaka

Must Read

Bangladesh is preparing to host the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting, with rumors circulating about a potential election for the sport’s global governing body. The news was confirmed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan on July 28.

The next ICC board meeting will be held in Dhaka, with the election for the ICC chairman likely to take place during this session. BCB President Nazmul Hasan announced that this meeting will probably mark the end of Greg Barclay’s second two-year term as ICC chairman.

Nazmul suggested that the upcoming board meeting will be crucial for selecting the future ICC leadership and expressed confidence that the election details will be settled at this meeting.

Nazmul Hasan said in a press conference at the secretariat: “It has been confirmed that the next ICC board meeting will be in Dhaka. Possibly the election [ICC] would take place here. I think there will be an election (in the ICC) as the current chairman will have the last board meeting. We are expected to give our election mandate by this time.”

The BCB president assured the ICC that Bangladesh remains committed to hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, despite concerns over recent unrest. ICC representatives were reassured at the latest meeting, with BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and women’s wing head Shafiul Alam Chowdhury also providing similar confirmations. The ICC has been monitoring the situation closely, especially after recent government emergency declarations.

The BCB president added, “When I went there, the situation of the country was very bad, and there was no communication with Bangladesh from outside, and the news they were getting was something they were quite afraid of. But after seeing me, they said at least they are convinced that everything is alright in the country.

After that, there was no discussion about it, and all they wanted to know was what had happened. For us, the important thing is the Women’s World Cup that we will host here.”

The Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team recently competed in the Asia Cup 2024 but missed the final, losing to India by 10 wickets in the semifinals. Sri Lanka, the host, won the tournament, defeating India by eight wickets in the final.
