Lanka Premier League 2024 sets viewership records

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 reached a global audience, with viewership of 780 million on television and 480 million unique online viewers. Australian cricket legend and brand ambassador Michael Clarke acknowledged the IPG Group, the league’s rights holder, for this outcome.

The LPL 2024 saw a 20% increase in television viewership compared to the previous season, indicating the league’s growing popularity and its status as a significant cricketing event.

Michael Clarke noted the LPL’s ability to engage global audiences, stating, “The Lanka Premier League has reached new heights this year. It’s fantastic to see the league’s matches being followed with such enthusiasm across the globe. The IPG Group has truly excelled in broadening its reach.”

Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela thanked the sponsors for their role in supporting the Sri Lankan economy through increased revenue and foreign investments. The league’s success contributed to economic growth.

Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, Founder and CEO of IPG Group, expressed his satisfaction with the league’s performance, noting, “Over the past five years, we’ve worked diligently to establish a global presence across television and digital platforms. This season delivered an electrifying atmosphere, a packed audience, and exceptional cricket played by world-class athletes. The positive response from Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa has solidified LPL 2024 as a resounding success.”

The LPL 2024 was broadcast in ten major cricketing nations, including networks such as Star Sports (India), Monara TV (Sri Lanka), A Sports (Pakistan), T Sports (Bangladesh), Fox Sports (Australia), and Sky (New Zealand).

The LPL’s reach was further extended through OTT platforms such as Fancode (India), The Papare (Sri Lanka), Telemed (Pakistan), and Styx Sports (South Africa), highlighting the role of digital media in sports consumption.

With an investment of approximately USD 10 million, the LPL 2024 set a benchmark for future seasons, showing its potential for growth and its ability to attract a diverse global audience. The success of this season underscores the LPL’s position in international cricket, with potential for further achievements in the future.
