Melbourne Renegades recruit Josh Brown will pull on red for the first time after being named in the Renegades Academy squad to contest the 2024 Top End T20 series in Darwin.

Brown, who joined the Gades from the Brisbane Heat in the offseason, is one of six primary-listed Gades to make the trip to the NT’s capital for the annual tournament alongside Victorian-contracted and local prospective players.

Will Sutherland will captain the team, while Gades’ all-time leading wicket-taker Kane Richardson and his BBL|08 championship winning teammate Mackenzie Harvey fly in from their respective states.

Emerging players Fergus O’Neill, who recently signed a two-year deal, and Harry Dixon will also make the trip north.

Jai Lemire and Tyler Pearson – who earned rookie contracts for Victoria this offseason – lead eight players not on a BBL list but looking to impress as squads right across the competition still being finalised.

Marcus Harris, who played 36 games with the Renegades between BBL|06-BBL|12, will re-join the program specifically for the tournament.

The Top End T20, which begins on Friday night, will see the Renegades take on several Big Bash and domestic cricket teams as well as an international contingent over 10 days of cricket.

Tassie Tigers, ACT Comets, Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars are all competing while Pakistan and Bangladesh high-performance squads will be represented.

All will by vying to take the title from defending champs, NT Strike.

The tournament serves as an ideal tournament to put pre-season work into practice and forms a key part of Wade Seccombe’s T20 High Performance program at the Renegades.

The Renegades kick off their Top End T20 campaign on Saturday against the Stars.
