BACKGROUND
Cricket Ireland is the governing body for the game at both performance and participation levels throughout all-Ireland, representing the interests of both the men’s and women’s game. Cricket Ireland was awarded ICC Full Membership in 2017.
The Ireland Women’s team has recently been to the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa and compete in the ICC Women’s Championship. Cricket Ireland award professional contracts (23) across the women’s performance programme in various levels and bands.
Underpinning our women’s team is a Women’s Super 3’s structures; Talent Pathway Programme and International Youth teams from under 15 to 19 girls; and a women’s development programme.
JOB PURPOSE
Cricket Ireland is seeking a full-time Physiotherapist (maternity cover) for their Women’s Performance programme for a period of 9 months with the potential to extend to 12 months. The position is headquartered in Dublin, working out of the Sport Ireland Institute in Abbotstown, but the nature of the role demands a national brief across both sides of the border as well as frequent time travelling overseas for periods of up to 3-4 weeks at a time.
The position will support the day to day running of the sports medicine operations of this squad with occasional input into our international pathways and Men’s senior squad when required whilst collaborating and working under the Cricket Ireland Head of Sport Science, physiotherapy and medical services (SSSM lead).
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the European Economic Area (EEA) and, if not currently eligible, will need to successfully apply for an appropriate employment permit, which can take up to 3 months.
REPORTING and MANAGEMENT
The successful candidate will be line-managed by the Head of Sport Science, physiotherapy and medical services but will also have a vital channel of communication into the broader MDT and coaching staff.
Purpose of the role
• To provide high quality Physiotherapy support to the Irish Women’s Cricket programme. This role will require the successful candidate to be based in and around Dublin with extensive international travel. The nature of the role may necessitate working irregular hours and occasional weekends in line with the requirements of the Ireland Women’s performance Squad.

Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high quality physiotherapy and rehabilitation support as well as regular physical profiling to Ireland Women’s performance squad (as well as pathway players and Senior men squad members as required) under the direction of the Head of Sport Science, Physiotherapy and Medical Services (SSSM lead).
• Support the delivery of strategies for player availability under the direction of, and collaboration with the SSSM lead.
• Support the delivery of specific performance projects and initiatives across physiotherapy and science and medicine in collaboration with the SSSM lead and performance services manager.
• Collaborate effectively with the Cricket Ireland MDT members, to ensure injury prevention and rehabilitation programmes are designed and delivered as effectively as possible.
• Contribute to a culture of working within the High-performance department that is inclusive, joined up and encourages high levels of effective team working and communication.
• Work closely with the Strength and Conditioning team and coaches to support the delivery of effective processes regarding workload monitoring, planning and management.
• Facilitate onward referrals for diagnostics and specialist care for players when required.
• Travel extensively overseas with the Women’s performance squad for training camps and international fixtures
Experience
Essentials
• Extensive experience of working in team sport, preferably at professional level and within Cricket.
• Degree in Physiotherapy
• A track record of excellent team working attributes including high levels of communication.
• Significant understanding of the needs of elite level athletes
• High-quality physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation skills including taping and strapping.
• Effective diagnostic/clinical decision-making skills.
• Registration with CORU. Ireland’s body responsible for regulating Health and social care professionals.
• Current Advanced Trauma Management and Emergency Care accreditation (can be provided).
• High standards of personal and professional integrity.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Full Driver’s license and access to a car
• An active Garda Vetting check (can be provided)
• A valid passport
Desirables
• International Cricket experience
• MSc in Sports Medicine or Sports Physiotherapy
• Experience in working with various technologies to monitoring, tracking, measuring and analysing the physical demands of international cricketers.
