BCCI turns down ICC’s offer to host the Women’s T20 World Cup

Must Read

The BCCI has “categorically declined” the ICC’s offer to host the Women’s T20 World Cup in October, according to their secretary Jay Shah.

The ICC is expected to make a final decision on August 20. With India ruling themselves out, Sri Lanka and the UAE are now the likely alternatives for the tournament scheduled from October 3-20.

“They [ICC] have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no. We’re in the monsoon and on top of that we will host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups,” Shah told Times of India

The ICC is considering relocating the Women’s T20 World Cup due to violence and security issues in Bangladesh following anti-government protests and the removal of the Sheikh Hasina government.

The ICC is monitoring the situation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and security consultants, focusing on participant safety. Travel advisories from teams like England, Australia, and India are complicating matters for the BCB.

The BCB is also in crisis, with president Nazmul Hassan out of office since August 5 and several board members unreachable. The Bangladesh men’s Test team is currently in Pakistan and will tour India next month.

“We’ve not spoken to them (the Bangladesh authorities). A new government has taken charge there. They might reach out to us or else I will reach out to them. The Bangladesh series is very important to us,” Shah added
