BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has dismissed rumors of the board organizing a T20 league for retired cricketers. A report in Dainik Jagran had suggested that former Indian cricketers, who have participated in various T20 leagues worldwide, approached Shah to request an IPL-style tournament for retired players in India.
The report added that the board hasn’t taken a final decision on the matter. “We have received a proposal from former cricketers in this regard. We are mulling over it,” claimed the report citing a BCCI source.
Speaking to Times of India, Shah said, “It’s fake news. No proposal has been discussed about that. No one has told me about it. However, I do not know what I will do about it if such a proposal comes.”
Recently, the World Championship of Legends (WCL) tournament took place in England, drawing large crowds and high viewership with packed matches at Edgbaston.
India, led by Yuvraj Singh, won the inaugural edition by defeating Pakistan, led by Younis Khan, in the final. In recent years, former players have participated in exhibition tournaments like the Road Safety World Series, WCL, and Global Legends League. However, these events are organized by private entities, not by an ICC-recognized cricket body.
