Sam Curran and Annabel Sutherland are Hundred Players of the Year.
Sam Curran and Annabel Sutherland have won The Hundred Men’s and Women’s PCA MVP Player of the Year awards, having finished the competition as the number one ranked players, statistically.
In the men’s tournament, Oval Invincibles were triumphant at Lord’s as Sam Billings’ side won by 17 runs whilst London Spirit won by four wickets in the women’s competition.
Curran and Sutherland both receive trophies produced by Mappin & Webb alongside £5,000 in prize money for winning The Hundred MVP.
The PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm calculates batting, bowling and fielding performances as well as match defining contributions and considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at. Therefore, providing a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game compared to traditional batting and bowling averages.
Finishing on top of the men’s table with 153.05 points is Oval Invincibles all-rounder Sam Curran.
The England international enjoyed a phenomenal tournament, ensuring his side finished top of the group to advance straight into the final.
The 26-year-old scored 201 runs at an average of 40.2 and a strike-rate of 164.8 with 17 sixes, only bettered by Nicholas Pooran. The T20 World Cup winner also had a fantastic tournament with the ball, taking 17 wickets at 10.5.
The impressive all-rounder won three Match MVP awards during the competition.
In the London derby against Spirit at Lord’s, Curran produced a dominant all-round display smashing an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls, including six sixes, and then taking unbelievable figures of 5-16, which included a hat-trick to secure victory and earn 32 MVP points.
The destructive batter also helped his side beat Manchester Originals by three runs having scored a 38-ball 68 and taken figures of 2-16 to secure a further 32 MVP points.
On winning the award Curran said: “I think the environment we’ve created has really helped, we’ve had a similar group for four years with similar faces, you come to work with a smile on your face and it feels amazing to secure back to back wins.”
Coming a close second on the table was Southern Brave captain James Vince who secured 145.6 MVP points.
The Southern Brave opener finished as leading run-scorer in the competition having amassed 424 runs at an average of 53 and a strike-rate of 142.8.
The 33-year-old won a Match MVP award and picked up 27 MVP points for an unbeaten innings of 73 off 50 balls with three sixes and seven fours as Brave beat Fire by 42 runs.
The World Cup winner also impressed against Birmingham Phoenix, scoring an unbeaten 90 off 47 balls.
Finishing third on the table is Phoenix opener Ben Duckett who secured 137 MVP points.
The 29-year-old scored 269 runs at an average of 67.3 with an extraordinary strike-rate of 171.3.
Duckett won two Match MVP awards and scored the highest individual total of the 2024 tournament, smashing 92 off 53 balls in a losing cause against Southern Brave to secure 54 MVP points.
In the women’s competition, PCA Vice Chair Heather Knight lifted the trophy as London Spirit were triumphant in a dramatic final at Lord’s beating Welsh Fire by four wickets with just two balls remaining, having been set a target of 116 to win.
However, the chasing pack were unable to reel in Sutherland who secured 156 MVP points despite only playing seven games as Northern Superchargers fell just short of making the Eliminator.
The Australian scored 212 runs in the tournament at an average of 35.3 and an impressive strike-rate of 137.6. Nobody hit more sixes than her as she finished level with Ellyse Perry with seven maximums.
The all-rounder also picked up a crucial 10 wickets with an amazing average of 9.9, including the best economy rate in the competition of 4.53.
The 22-year-old picked up a Match MVP award against the Oval Invincibles, claiming a massive 55 points for an incredible unbeaten 63 off 40 balls, including three sixes, and remarkable figures of 4-11 as Superchargers won by 82 runs.
Last year’s Hundred Women’s Player of the Year winner Marizanne Kapp came second on the table, securing 148 MVP points.
The Invincibles all-rounder scored 207 runs at an average of 51.8 with a strong strike-rate of 134.4.
The 34-year-old took 11 wickets at 13.9 with a more than useful economy rate of 5.9.
Picking up two Match MVP awards, the South African helped her side to victory in the London derby at Lord’s by scoring 47 off 32 balls and taking figures of 4-11, to gain a fantastic total of 54 MVP points.
Finishing third on the table with 146 MVP points is the 2022 winner of The Hundred Women’s Player of the Year, Nat Sciver-Brunt.
The England all-rounder topped the run scoring charts with 303 runs at 60.6 and took six wickets for Trent Rockets.
The 31-year-old all-rounder picked up Match MVP awards against Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals.
