ICC on the lookout for a new female independent director

Must Read

The International Cricket Council is seeking a new female independent director following the end of Indra Nooyi’s six-year term last month.

The International Cricket Council will also appoint a new chairman, as Greg Barclay has opted not to seek a third term. Indra Nooyi, who served as the ICC’s first female independent director since 2018, has completed her tenure.

The ICC board is reportedly looking for a high-profile successor to Nooyi, who was a prominent figure in the corporate world. Nooyi has gained recognition for her significant achievements and has been featured in Forbes, Time, and Fortune as one of the most powerful women across various sectors.

To ensure representation of equality, diversity, and inclusion in cricket, ICC rules mandate that the Board of Directors select a female director who meets the Director Eligibility Criteria.

According to ICC statutes, “The Board of Directors shall elect one female individual who meets the Director Eligibility Criteria to represent interests in equality, diversity, and inclusivity in cricket. This individual, referred to as the Independent Director, shall serve on the Board.”

A source close to the ICC Board indicated that the selected candidate could be a prominent woman from either the corporate world or sports.

“It could be anyone who has contributed to sports, business, or in general. Just for example, it could be a Meg Lanning, a Charlotte Edwards, or someone powerful from business community. Basically, anyone who is eligible and person of eminence with contribution to sport,” it stated.

The Independent Director will be appointed for an initial two-year term based on at least three recommendations from the Nominations Committee and will have voting rights in the chairman’s election.
