Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has pledged to address the issues with the national cricket team following their 10-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the Rawalpindi Test.

In a media briefing on Monday, Naqvi stated, “I will fix the issues in Pakistan cricket, God willing.” He assured that changes are forthcoming and hinted at significant behind-the-scenes adjustments, saying, “Mark my words, things will not stay the same. A lot is happening in the background.”

Bangladesh achieved their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan, winning by 10 wickets in Rawalpindi. Pakistan was dismissed for 146 in their second innings, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan taking seven wickets between them to secure the win. Mehidy took 4-21 and Shakib 3-44, leading to Pakistan’s collapse and setting Bangladesh a target of just 30 runs, which was reached in 6.3 overs by openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam.

Previously, after a six-run loss to India in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Naqvi had suggested a major overhaul might be necessary. He had said, “Initially, I believed a minor surgery would suffice, but after this poor performance, it’s clear that a major overhaul is needed. The nation will soon witness substantial changes.”

Zakir Hasan scored the winning runs, with Shadman Islam unbeaten on nine, celebrating Bangladesh’s historic win. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored for Pakistan with 51, but their defeat was sealed after Mehidy dismissed Rizwan and Mohammad Ali in successive overs.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto dedicated the victory to those affected by recent political turmoil in Bangladesh.
