Imran Khan, Pakistan’s legendary cricketer and former Prime Minister, has strongly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) leadership for the declining state of cricket in the country.
Speaking from Adiala Jail, where he is currently incarcerated, Imran voiced his concerns following Pakistan’s defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test match in Rawalpindi. He blamed the PCB’s decline on unqualified officials, attributing the nation’s cricket struggles to their leadership.
Imran Khan didn’t mince words, emphasizing that cricket is the one sport that brings the entire nation together in front of their televisions. “Cricket is the only sport the entire nation watches with great interest on TV, but even that has been destroyed by powerful quarters who brought in an unqualified, favored official to maintain their control,” he said.
Imran Khan highlighted Pakistan’s recent struggles in international cricket, noting that the team failed to reach the top four in the World Cup and the top eight in T20 competitions. The recent 10-wicket defeat to Bangladesh, a team they had comfortably beaten just a few years ago, marked a significant low point.
Khan questioned the drastic decline in the team’s performance, asking, “What has changed in these two-and-a-half years that we lost to Bangladesh by 10 wickets?”
His remarks reflect growing concerns within the cricketing community about the state of Pakistan’s cricket. His criticism aligns with the sentiments of former international players like Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan, who have also expressed disappointment in Pakistan’s recent performances.
