Perth Scorchers have secured the most prolific batter in WBBL history for another three years, signing superstar opener Beth Mooney until at least the end of WBBL|12.

Mooney was dominant again in Weber WBBL|09 with 539 runs at 53.90 including five half-centuries and a century, finishing as the competition’s leading run-scorer for the fourth consecutive season.

The classy left-hander – who has played 179 games for Australia (seven Tests, 74 ODIs and 98 T20Is) – sustained the imposing strike rate of 144.50 throughout the campaign, and was central to Perth finishing the WBBL|09 regular season in second place.

Across the course of her decorated WBBL career, Mooney has amassed an unrivalled 4647 runs at 47.42 from 131 matches. She also sits atop the Scorchers’ WBBL run-scoring table with 2089 runs at 49.73 from 57 matches.

In addition to her run-scoring capabilities, the 30-year-old is the Scorchers’ primary wicketkeeper and offers invaluable leadership experience.

The Scorchers have two local and two international list spots left to fill before their prime-time season opener against Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground on Sunday 27 October.

Reflecting on signing on with the Scorchers, Mooney said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to the Scorchers for the next three seasons.

“It is such an incredible organisation to be a part of – the playing group and staff are unbelievable, and we have been able to build a fantastic team culture over the past few seasons.

“Moving over to the Scorchers four seasons ago was the best decision of my career, it has allowed me to fall in love with cricket again and I think this environment has given me the platform to thrive.

“Winning the WBBL|07 title in front of our fans at Optus Stadium will always be a special memory for me, and I hope that over the next three years, there will be another title to celebrate.

Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach, Becky Grundy, said:

“We’re obviously thrilled that Moons will be part of our Scorchers squad for the next three seasons, she has brought so much value on and off the field during her time with us and continues to be an incredible leader for this group.

“Her world-class talent is obvious for those who watch her, but her calmness, composure and game-sense are features of her game that have allowed her to perform so consistently for the Scorchers and Australia for a long period of time.

“Her leadership around the group also stands out, with her professionalism and attention to detail being a wonderful example to our younger players.

“She has grown into such an important member of our playing squad, and we are so lucky to have a player of her quality sticking around for the foreseeable future”
