FIELDING COACH
Western Province Professional Cricket (Pty) Ltd (“WPPC”) with its headquarters situated at Newlands Cricket Ground, and subscribes to the principles of the Employment Equity Act hereby invites an ambitious Fielding Coach to apply for this vacancy.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The successful candidate will act as the Fielding Coach of the Western Province Cricket Professional Men’s Team.
The role reports to the Western Province Professional Men’s Team Head Coach.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• To be responsible for developing and enhancing the fielding skills of the players for the Western Province Professional Men’s team.
• To design and implement comprehensive fielding programs to enhance players ‘catching, throwing and ground fielding skills.
• Conduct regular assessments of players’ fielding abilities and provide personalised coaching plans to address weaknesses.
• Collaborate with the coaching staff to plan and execute effective fielding drills during practice sessions.
• Integrate fielding exercises seamlessly into the team’s overall training regimen.
• Analyse opposition teams to identify fielding strengths and weaknesses, providing insights to the coaching staff.
• Work with players on strategic fielding placements and effective game-time decisionmaking.
• Coordinate with the fitness coach to integrate fielding-specific fitness and agility drills into players’ training routines.
• Monitor players’ physical condition and address any concerns related to fielding fitness.
• Apply safe fielding practices, identify and minimise risk factors to fielders.
• Work closely with the Strength & Conditioning Specialist and Physiotherapist in applying appropriate strength and conditioning principles relevant to safe fielding.
• Communicate effectively with players, providing constructive feedback and motivation to encourage continuous improvement.
• Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that emphasizes the importance of fielding in overall team success.
• Stay updated on the latest fielding techniques, tools and technologies to incorporate innovative methods into coaching strategies.
• Utilise video analysis and other technology-driven tools to assess and improve fielding performance.
• Work closely with the Selection Committee the Head Coach to assess the fielding capabilities of players during selection processes.
• Provide input on fielding aspects to assist in squad selection for matches.
• Collaborate with other coaches to ensure seamless integration of fielding strategies with batting and bowling tactics.
• Attend team meetings to provide insights into fielding plans and strategies.
• Any additional responsibilities or tasks assigned by the Head Coach related to fielding training duties and assisting at net sessions.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• CSA Level 3 Coaching Certificate will be preferable.
• A minimum 2-3 years proven working experience as a cricket coach with a focus on fielding with any high-ranking team.
• Strong understanding of modern fielding techniques and strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire players to excel in their fielding performances.
• Playing a crucial role in elevating the overall fielding standards of the team as well as contributing to the team’s success.
REMUNERATION
The remuneration package for this position will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
