Somerset County Cricket Club has signed New Zealand seamer Brett Randell to a short-term contract.
The 29-year-old right-arm bowler, who has played for Central Districts and Northern Districts in First Class cricket, will be available for the final three Vitality County Championship Division matches.
Randell, a former Under-19 international who was called up to the New Zealand A squad last year, has appeared in 30 First Class matches, taking 86 wickets at an average of 25.15, with best figures of 6 for 45.
After joining Somerset, Randell commented, “I’m beyond excited to be joining Somerset for the rest of the County Championship this year. It’s been a dream of mine to play County Cricket since I was a boy, and it’s special to have the chance to play for such a great club. First Class wins are tough to come by, so I’m looking forward to giving my best to bring some wins Somerset’s way.”
Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, expressed satisfaction with the signing: “We have gained valuable experience over the last couple of seasons to understand the importance of having depth to our bowling unit as we enter the final stages of the season, when there is so much to play for. Brett will add experience to the unit and hopefully bring added impetus that will enable us to manage our bowlers across the formats in order for us to finish strongly.”
