Former India spinner and Aam Aadmi Party MP Harbhajan Singh has revised his earlier stance. Initially, he expressed concerns about security but has now stated that India should travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 only if high-level security is guaranteed for the players.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is exploring a hybrid model for the tournament, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) insists on hosting the Indian team in Pakistan.
Current BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who will soon become the ICC Chairman, has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will captain the team. However, it remains uncertain whether India will travel to Pakistan for the event.
Amid ongoing discussions, Harbhajan Singh has made a demand regarding India’s potential tour of Pakistan. In an interview, the former Indian spinner stated, “They have a different point of view, and we have a different point of view. The security concerns are there, and I don’t think the team should play over there. If they say that the Indians will get security and there will be no hassle, then it is the government’s job to take a call because in the end, it is not just about cricket and there are other issues as well.”
He further noted, “As a cricketer, you want to play cricket anywhere in the world but the security concern is always there. Players should play in Pakistan until security is guaranteed.”
Former Pakistani wicket keeper Rashid Latif has expressed the view that India’s tour of Pakistan is likely to be confirmed with Jay Shah becoming the ICC Chairman. Indian Cricket Board Vice President Rajiv Shukla has also indicated that if the government permits, the Indian cricket team will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
