KKR aims to plant 2667 trees across the city of Kolkata, Howrah and Sunderbans which are equivalent to the total runs made by them in their title-winning IPL 2024 season.

Kolkata Knight Riders successfully completed the first plantation drive of their ‘Runs to Roots’ initiative in Newtown Kolkata on 14th July. In this ‘Runs to Roots’ initiative, KKR aims to plant as many as 2667 trees which are equivalent to the total number of  runs made by KKR in the  IPL 2024 season. The first plantation drive on 14th of July, saw 18 KKR fan club volunteers come together to plant 400 fruit and flowering trees. KKR will continue to drive this initiative throughout the city of Kolkata, Howrah and Sundarbans.

KKR’s initiative of planting fruit, flowering and medicinal plants, will enhance biodiversity by facilitating an increase in flora and fauna through planting a variety of tree species. Additionally this will improve the sustainable sources of food, medicine, and income for local communities. KKR have always been keen on giving back to the society and the environment and they continue to build their green initiatives from strength to strength.

A few more notable benefits of the ‘Runs to Roots’ initiative in strengthening natural ecosystems, particularly mangroves, to protect against climate change impacts and soil erosion. The initiative will also be beneficial to educate communities on the benefits of tree planting and environmental stewardship.

KKR Co-owner, Juhi Chawla expressed her pride and joy in this initiative: “Incredibly proud of KKR and our team of volunteers. When we unite for a good cause even the heavens are pleased. In time, these trees will grow strong and tall, bearing fruit and bringing calm and joy to all. Our goal this season is to plant 2667 trees, the number of runs scored by our KKR champions. Best wishes to everyone involved.”
