Kenya’s cricket board has unexpectedly dismissed Dodda Ganesh from his position as head coach of the national team, just one month after his appointment.

The former India cricketer, who took the role in August 2024 on a one-year contract, was removed before leading the team in any major tournament. Reports indicate that Ganesh’s sudden dismissal stems from the invalidation of his contract with Cricket Kenya.

Sources suggest the decision was made due to non-compliance with certain guidelines during the appointment process.

Cricket Kenya’s executive board, through a statement signed by Director of Women’s Cricket Pearlyne Omami, confirmed the decision.

The statement read, “Under a resolution of the executive board of Cricket Kenya passed on Wednesday, 28th August 2024, and anchored under inter alia Articles 5.9 and 8.4.3 of the Cricket Kenya Constitution, we wish to notify you that the executive board has declined to ratify your appointment as head coach of the men’s cricket national team for want of following established procedures.”

The decision to dismiss Dodda Ganesh came just weeks before he was set to lead Kenya in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League, where they were scheduled to compete against teams like Papua New Guinea and Qatar.

Ganesh, who played five international matches for India, was a key figure in Karnataka’s domestic cricket, amassing 493 dismissals and scoring 2,548 runs. He was appointed as Kenya’s head coach on August 14, 2024.

With ambitious goals, Ganesh aimed to lead Kenya to qualify for both the ODI and T20 World Cups. Upon his appointment, he outlined plans to evaluate local players, conduct fitness assessments, and implement a strategy to boost Kenya’s cricket profile. However, his tenure was cut short after just one month in the role.
