Jay Shah will remain BCCI secretary until the end of November, with no plans to step down before then. The BCCI Apex Council is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss various operational matters, but the appointment of a new secretary is not on the agenda.

This will be the final Apex Council meeting before the board’s 93rd Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru, which is just five days away. A new secretary is required since Jay Shah has been unanimously elected as the next ICC chairman. However, he will not step down as BCCI secretary during the AGM, as he will assume his new role starting December 1.

The agenda for the Apex Council meeting includes eight items, but no discussion is planned on the nomination process for a new secretary. One of the agenda items is an update on the issue involving Byju’s, the BCCI’s former title sponsor. Byju‘s, a Bengaluru-based edtech firm co-founded by Byju Raveendran, ended its sponsorship deal with the BCCI in March last year. The controversy concerns unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023, despite payments being made until September 2022.

The meeting will also address the inauguration of the new, state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Currently, the NCA operates at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where it has been based for over two decades. Other agenda items include approval for renovation work on the exterior of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and the North East development project.

Meeting Agenda Highlights:

– Byju’s Payment Issue: Discussion on the unresolved payment settlement with the edtech firm, which ended its sponsorship deal with BCCI in March last year. The issue concerns unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023.

– National Cricket Academy Inauguration: Plans for the inauguration of the state-of-the-art NCA on Bengaluru’s outskirts, currently operating at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, will be reviewed.

– BCCI Headquarters Renovation: Approval will be sought for the exterior renovation of the Mumbai headquarters.

– North East Development Project: Focus on the development of cricket infrastructure in northeastern India.
