Today we received the sad news that former international Asim Khan had passed away. He was only 62 years old.
Asim Khan was born on 14 February 1962 in Lahore, Pakistan. In the Netherlands he played for VRA, Gandhi, Kampong and VVV. Between 1994 and 2002 he played 51 times for the Dutch national team. He was a very successful and economical right arm medium pacer.
Asim’s ‘finest hour’ came on 24 May 1997. In an ICC Trophy match in Kuala Lumpur against East & Central Africa, Asim was unplayable. In 7.2 overs he took seven wickets for nine runs – still the best bowling figure ever in an ICC Trophy match. The Africans were all out for 26 and it will come as no surprise that Asim was named Player of the Match that day.
Asim was a cheerful man with a great sense of humor. We will miss him and wish his relatives to draw strength from the beautiful memories Asim left behind both on and off the field.
