IPL Governing Council: Arun Dhumal, Avishek Dalmiya re-elected

Must Read

Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya have been re-elected to the IPL Governing Council, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following its 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Dhumal will continue as IPL chairman for another year, with a mega auction scheduled later this year and retention rules recently announced. Former Andhra and South Zone cricketer V Chamundeswaranath was nominated by the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) as a player representative and inducted into the IPL Governing Council at the AGM.

The BCCI announced that the AGM approved the IPL Governing Council’s recommendations for the 2025-2027 player auction cycle, including provisions for player retentions, Right to Match (RTM) cards, and salary caps.

For the 2025 IPL mega auction, franchises can retain up to six players from their current squad. This includes five capped players (Indian and overseas) and up to two uncapped players, with retention or RTM options. Franchises have until October 31 to finalize their decisions.

The auction purse for the ten franchises is set at INR 120 crore for IPL 2025. Each player, including the Impact Player, will receive a match fee of INR 7.5 lakh, and the Impact Player rule will continue through the 2027 season.

The General Body commended the office bearers for their efforts on the new National Cricket Academy campus, the Centre of Excellence, inaugurated in Bengaluru over the weekend.

The audited accounts for FY 2023-24 were approved, along with the FY 2024-25 annual budget. The General Body also unanimously resolved to retain BCCI’s legal status as a society and decided that BCCI tournaments, including the IPL, will not be converted into a company.
