The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council, under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has issued retention guidelines ahead of the 2025 mega auction. Teams are required to submit their list of retained players by October 31, sparking fan speculation about which players their favorite franchises will keep. Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal added to the excitement with recent comments to the media.

Jindal confirmed that Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who made a remarkable comeback after a near-fatal accident in December 2022, will be retained by DC.

Yes, we definitely have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made. Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained,” Jindal said.

Jindal also highlighted other key players on the team: “We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Triston Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team. We’ll see what happens in the auction. But first, as per the rule, we can retain six players. After discussions, we will proceed with the auction and see what happens.”

The IPL Governing Council has set the limit for retained players at six, including up to five capped players and two uncapped players, either through retention or using the Right to Match (RTM) option.

For IPL 2025, the auction purse is set at INR 120 crore, with the total salary cap increasing to INR 146 crore. In a significant change, a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per player will be introduced.

Overseas players must register for the auction, and penalties will apply to those who withdraw after being selected.
