Former India batter and 2011 Cricket World Cup winner, Suresh Raina, is one of the marquee players in the newly launched Sixty Strikes tournament, organized by the National Cricket League (NCL) in the USA. Leading the New York Lions in this 10-over format, Raina made an impressive start by scoring a half-century in his team’s opening game.
Beyond his on-field performance, Raina also showcased a compassionate side by spending time with Afghan refugees, many of whom were children. He and his teammates were seen warmly interacting with the refugees and taking pictures with families. Having won two major ICC trophies for India, Raina remains a major draw in this emerging tournament.
The NCL’s 10-over-a-side competition is part of cricket’s growing presence in the USA, running from October 4 to October 14. The tournament features several cricket legends, both as players and mentors. In addition to stars like Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan, and Shahid Afridi, cricketing icons Sir Vivian Richards, Wasim Akram, and Sanath Jayasuriya are serving as team mentors.
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, considered one of the greatest batters in the sport’s history, is also involved in the tournament as part of the ownership group. Raina’s brilliant knock of 53 off 28 balls helped guide New York Lions CC to a 19-run victory over Los Angeles Waves CC in their first match.
