Former Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali has emerged as the leading candidate for a senior position within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) focused on youth development, according to reports.

The PCB posted an advertisement on its website for the role of Director of Youth Cricket, with a deadline of October 31 for applications. Candidates must have played at least 50 Test matches for their country.

An insider revealed that Azhar is the favorite for the position, as he has shown interest in working with junior players and improving the youth system.

“Another former captain, Mohammad Yousuf, is also interested in the role, which contributed to his decision to resign as a national selector,” the insider added.

The PCB created this new role to ensure the appointed individual works with regional coaches, academies, and players from the under-13 to under-19 levels. Responsibilities also include scouting new talent and grooming it through a structured system.

The insider further explained that another reason for establishing this position was to combat internal politics and age verification fraud in age-group tournaments.
