Highly experienced cricket executive White, who served as General Manager for the Unicorns’ sophomore season, will lead the Bay Area’s cricket team

The San Francisco Unicorns today announced the promotion of its General Manager David White to CEO. White held the role of General Manager leading into the 2024 Major League Cricket season, in which the Unicorns achieved unprecedented success by progressing to the championship game.

In partnership with MLC, the Unicorns plan to build a world-class home for the team in the Bay Area, which will be capable of hosting major international cricket events. As part of his role, White will lead the search for a sustainable home stadium in the Bay Area, fostering the growth of the world’s second-biggest sport in one of North America’s biggest sports markets. Increased sponsorship revenue and on-field success has driven The Unicorns’ current pursuit of the Oakland Coliseum for matches in 2025.

White brings extensive leadership experience to his new role, having directed community cricket initiatives at Cricket Victoria, led partnership development and business strategies for the City of Melbourne, and managed national leagues and major events at Hockey Australia. He also played a key role as a Women’s National Youth Selector for Cricket Australia, identifying top talent for the national teams.

“I am incredibly honored to step into the role of CEO for the San Francisco Unicorns,” said White. “Cricket is experiencing unheralded growth in the United States, and I look forward to leading this organization as we continue to build a strong connection with our Bay Area fans, field world-class talent, and elevate the sport in the Bay and beyond.

“This is an exciting new chapter for the team, and I am committed to driving our success both on and off the field.”

Under White’s stewardship as General Manager, the San Francisco Unicorns experienced remarkable growth in the sophomore season of Major League Cricket. White secured the signing of international cricket superstar Pat Cummins and oversaw a team of world-renowned stars, including Finn Allen, Matthew Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Matt Henry, and 2019 Cricket World Cup champion Liam Plunkett. The team was led by U.S. all-rounder and standout captain Corey Anderson.

“David’s vision, leadership, and ability to attract world-class talent have been instrumental in the team’s rapid success,” said Unicorns co-owner Anand Rajaraman. “His deep understanding of the sport and commitment to growing cricket in the U.S. make him the perfect choice to lead the Unicorns into an exciting future. We have full confidence that under his guidance, the team will continue to thrive, and the high standard of Major League Cricket will continue to rise.”

The San Francisco Unicorns are preparing for the third season of Major League Cricket, which will kick off in Summer 2025.
