Glamorgan County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs in England and Wales, representing the historic county of Glamorgan. Founded in 1888, it was initially a Minor Counties Championship member before joining the County Championship in 1921 and achieving first-class status. Glamorgan has since competed in all top-level domestic cricket competitions in England and Wales.

Former Glamorgan batter Hugh Morris was inducted into the Welsh Sport Hall of Fame on Thursday 24 October at their Annual Role of Honour Dinner at the Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff. Iwan Thomas, Liza Burgess, Jim Roberts and Liz Johnson joined the elite list of inductees into the Welsh Sport Hall of Fame.

Hugh Morris became the 12th cricketer to be inducted by Welsh Sport, behind Maurice Turnbull in 1994; Johnnie Clay in 1998; Tony Lewis in 2004; Allan Watkins and Don Shepherd in 2006; Simon Jones, Jeff Jones and Wilf Wooller in 2015; Alan Jones in 2016; Peter Walker in 2017; and Lynne Thomas in 2018.

Hugh Morris became Glamorgan’s youngest captain in 1986, aged 22. The left-handed opening batter established a new Club record in 1990, scoring 10 centuries and amassing 2,276 runs, which earned him a Test cap for England the following year.

Under Morris’ captaincy, Glamorgan won the 1993 Sunday League title, the Club’s first major trophy since 1969. He was also part of the 1997 County Championship winning side.

After his retirement, Hugh worked at the England & Wales Cricket Board in multiple senior roles, including Chief Executive. He later returned to Glamorgan and took over as the Club’s Chief Executive and Director of Cricket. Morris was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 Birthday Honours for his services to cricket and charity.
