PCB shortlists names for Head Coach role

Must Read

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly close to appointing a new white-ball coach for the national team after Gary Kirsten resigned just months into his role.

The PCB has reportedly shifted its stance on foreign coaches and now aims to prioritize local options, as international hires have not yielded the desired outcomes for Pakistan cricket. Saqlain Mushtaq and Aaqib Javed are shortlisted for the position.

Saqlain, a former off-spinner, is currently a leading candidate due to his familiarity with the national team. He has worked at the PCB’s High-Performance Center for International Player Development and is said to have the support of new captain Mohammad Rizwan.

Aaqib Javed, on the other hand, is gaining favor with the PCB after leading Pakistan to its first home Test series win in over three years. Already a member of the selection committee, Aaqib is looking to strengthen his influence over the team. His successful track record includes guiding Lahore Qalandars to two titles.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to announce the decision soon after consulting with key stakeholders.
