Former Pakistan batting legend Zaheer Abbas has become the first cricketer in a long time to be inducted into the Board of Governors (BoG) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), having been nominated by the State Bank of Pakistan.
The State Bank initially nominated Meraj Mahmood to the BoG before recommending Zaheer Abbas, a former president of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
A PCB official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that Zaheer has been included in the BoG, which is the PCB’s decision-making body and consists of four members from the 16 regional cricket associations and four departments affiliated with the PCB.
The BoG also includes three nominees from the Prime Minister, as well as the Chief Secretary of Punjab and the Secretary of the Cabinet Division.
Established for the first time in 2007, the BoG originally included two Test cricketers, but former players were later excluded from the BoG after it was restructured under the 2019 PCB constitution, which has since been revoked.
