Durham Cricket can announce the appointment of two assistant coaches to Durham’s support staff for the Club’s women’s professional team.

Kyle Coetzer and Nathan Rimmington will join Danielle Hazell’s coaching team ahead of the 2025 season – joining with a wealth of coaching experience to their names.

Coetzer joins as Batting Coach, having fulfilled a similar role alongside Hazell for the Northern Diamonds over the past two seasons.

The Durham Academy graduate enjoyed a dazzling playing career, earning an MBE for services to cricket in 2019 and being named as Associate Nation Player of the Decade by the ICC the following year before retiring as Scotland’s all-time leading run scorer.

Beginning his domestic career with Durham in 2004, the 40-year-old compiled over 3000 runs in all formats for the club with five centuries and 13 fifties across eight seasons.

The former Scotland captain was part of Scotland Women’s coaching set up in 2022 before ending his playing career in early 2023 and has since been part of Welsh Fire Women’s coaching department, helping them to successive top three finishes in The Hundred.

Rimmington will become Bowling Coach, progressing from his role as Durham’s Assistant Academy and Pathway Coach, a post which he has held since 2021.

After previous playing spells in England with Hampshire and Derbyshire, the Australian made 56 appearances for Durham taking 85 wickets for the club between 2018 and 2020.

Rimmington was most prominent in the T20 format and took 4/28 against Lancashire in his first season before he captained Durham during the 2020 Vitality Blast, before leaving the club at the end of that campaign.

The 41-year-old has since led the bowling department for Durham’s Boys’ Pathway and Academy alongside coaching the boys’ Under 15s, Under 16s.

On his new role, Rimmington added:“I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to be part of this new chapter with Durham women as Assistant Coach, as I look forward to getting going and working with such a talented squad of players.

“This is a hugely exciting time for women’s cricket in the North East and is it is a huge privilege to be involved in new history for the Club.

“Durham has a long history of producing pace bowlers and I’ll be doing everything I can to ensure that tradition continues in the women’s game.”

On his return to Durham, Coetzer said: “I’m eager to contribute to the development of the women’s game in Durham and to work alongside such a talented group of players and staff.

“It’s really exciting for me personally to return to the club that gave me so many special memories in my younger years.

“Together, I know we can build strong foundations to help the team and the club achieve something special. It’s an exciting journey ahead, and I’m grateful to be part of it.”

“Marcus North Director of Cricket added: “I am delighted to have such highly regarded coaches join Dani and her wider team. This was critical to our vision in providing the best expertise for our players.

“Both Kyle and Nathan have vast experience within cricket and Durham, both as players and as coaches, allowing them to bring great qualities and skills to their roles.”
