Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif made a significant statement ahead of the ICC meeting regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He believes that a statement made by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi about Afghanistan could influence Afghanistan’s stance during the meeting.
On November 27, Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, announced that Afghan nationals would no longer be allowed to stay in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) without proper authorization after December 31. This decision followed unrest in Pakistan, during which Afghan nationals were reportedly involved in violent protests associated with the PTI.
Naqvi added that Afghan citizens wishing to remain in the capital beyond this year must obtain a no-objection certificate from the deputy commissioner, which could have significant consequences for Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan.
Latif believes that Naqvi’s actions could impact Afghanistan’s position at the upcoming ICC meeting. The meeting, scheduled for November 29, is expected to resolve issues surrounding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Latif stated, “The talk related to Afghanistan in Pakistan will play a role in the ICC meeting related to ICC Champions Trophy 2025. A hint is enough for the wise people, Afghanistan is hurt by the statement of Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and may take a critical step in the ICC Meeting. Give my message to Mohsin Naqvi that things are done in a diplomatic way and not the way he did.”
Latif also warned that Pakistan’s actions could provoke a reaction, urging the PCB to adopt a more diplomatic approach. He emphasized, “There will be a reaction. There will be a reaction, I am telling you. I am not looking at it like that. But they do agree a little bit. We talked at one place. But you and I can’t do things. Bad things happen. If the third team stands up, what will you do? Don’t make an enemy, make a friend. And the second team is going like this. Don’t make an enemy, make a friend.”
