Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium may lose its hosting rights for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to concerns raised by broadcasters about the logistical and financial challenges of holding matches at four venues.
The tournament, which will feature top cricketing nations, could be reduced to three locations—Karachi, Lahore, and Dubai—due to rising costs and operational difficulties associated with broadcasting across multiple sites.
Coordinating coverage from four venues has proven problematic, with broadcasters citing complications and high expenses.
While a final decision to reduce the number of venues has not been made, sources suggest Karachi, Lahore, and Dubai are under consideration as primary locations. The official schedule for the Champions Trophy is expected to provide further clarity soon.
According to the Tribune, reports indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reached an agreement regarding the tournament.
The news has been disappointing for fans in Rawalpindi, who were hoping to host several high-profile matches.
Under the proposed hybrid model, if India fails to qualify for the semi-finals or final, the entire tournament will be held in Pakistan. However, if India reaches these stages, the semi-finals and final will be moved to the UAE.
This arrangement follows an agreement between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Pakistan, with the hybrid format also paving the way for Pakistan to host future women’s tournaments after 2027.
