The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test all-rounder Abdul Razzaq to lead a nationwide talent scouting program aimed at strengthening the national T20 squad.

The program, named “Strike Force,” seeks to discover hidden talent from across Pakistan, where T20 cricket is widely popular.

According to a PCB official, Razzaq‘s initial task will be to identify 50 players and narrow them down to a shortlist, with the goal of selecting potential candidates for the national team.

“We have been struggling in T20 cricket for a while, and the idea is that with so much T20 cricket being played in the country, and Razzaq himself being a class hitter and all-rounder, he can unearth some unknown talent,” the official explained.

Currently ranked eighth in the ICC T20 standings, Pakistan has faced setbacks, including T20 series losses in Australia and South Africa and a defeat in Zimbabwe. Tape tennis ball cricket, a popular format in Pakistan, features local players showcasing big-hitting skills, some even earning significant fees for their performances.

“Pakistan is clearly lagging behind other countries when it comes to hitting sixes and fours and unconventional strokes, and the idea is that some of those players, who are limited to playing in local events, can be good enough to play international cricket,” the PCB official added.

Razzaq, who previously served as a national selector with the PCB, brings his experience and expertise to this new role.
