Two Renegades have been named in the Australian squad for the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup, which begins on home soil next month.

Spinners Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham have been named in the 15-player group that will defend the Aussies’ title, having won the previous tournament back in 2018.

Molineux, who will celebrate her 22nd birthday on Friday, has a fine record at international level. She has represented Australia in all three formats and performed well for the Renegades in the first half of the WBBL|05 campaign with both bat and ball.

In November, she elected to take time away from the game to focus on her mental health and wellbeing. She returned to state cricket last week.

Wareham, meanwhile, has been a fixture of the national limited overs teams for the past 18 months. Her leg spin has earned her 22 wickets from 20 T20Is, performing strongly in the World Cup final against England as a teenager in 2018.

The pair will now contend for selection in the final XI for a series of warm-up matches against the West Indies and South Africa next month, before the World Cup begins on February 21 with a match against India at the Sydney Showgrounds.
