The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the governing body for cricket in Afghanistan. It joined the ICC in 2001, became an associate member in 2013, and a full member in 2017. The ACB is also part of the Asian Cricket Council.

National Players and ACB officials met Dr. Abdul Wasi, the prime minister’s office manager, during a meeting held in the presidential office today.

Dr. Abdul Wasi addressed the players and officials in the meeting with the importance of the game and its contribution to the unity of the nation. He added that the national team has always represented a good image of the country and has blessed the country with countless glories.

Mr. Wasi ensured that the government of Afghanistan supports the Afghanistan Cricket Board and is committed to further developing the game in the country. “Always prioritize the national interests and maintain unison among yourselves, because this is exactly what the nation wants”. He added.

He also added that this is the first instance in the history of Afghanistan Cricket that a national player & a professional person is been appointed as the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board. This step has been taken to ensure that the requirements of the players and organization are fulfilled and the relevant operations are being run smoothly.

Naseeb Khan, the ACB CEO, addressed the meeting on behalf of ACB and added that the government has always supported the ACB and provided full cooperation in some difficult circumstances which contributed largely to the smooth running of the organization.

“During the last year, we made many positive reforms in administrative and technical aspects of the organization and have also made regular needed changes to the National team. In addition to this, we were able to arrange all our scheduled matches and series without any obstacles, with is considered an achievement in these circumstances.” He added.

He also said that the government has introduced an independent board to the ACB that is made up of scientific, commercial and technical individuals including former Afghanistan players such as Raees Ahmadzai and Allah Dad Noori. “The government has also helped us in financial aspects and is hopeful that this support and cooperation should continue so that the organization can achieve its objectives in a smooth manner.

In addition to this, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afghanistan’s captain for Test and ODI cricket, thanked the government for their full support of the ACB in some difficult situations. Hashmat also marked the appointment of Mr. Mirwais Ashraf as a positive move for ACB who has led the organization to its objectives regularly.
