The Afghanistan Cricket Board today announced the 30-member shortlisted Afghanistan U19 squad for the 2nd phase preparation camp which will involve several intra-squad games as well as additional player assessment programs.

The 30-member squad includes Ahmadullah, Akram, Ali Ahmad, Asif Mohammad, Bashir Ahmad, Fahim, Farhad Usmani, Faridon, Gulzar, Hamza, Hassan Eisakhil, Hedayat, Hizbullah Durrani, Jamshid, Jawed, Kamran Hotak, Khalid, Khalil Ahmad, Mohammad Haroon, Nasir Hassan, Nasir Khan, Noman, Noman Shah, Shir Khan, Sohail, Suliman Arabzai, Usman Khan, Wafiullah, Yama Arab and Younis Zadran.

These 30 players will undergo intensive training and evaluation as part of ACB’s plans for the preparation of the team for two major events, the ACC U19 Men’s Asia Cup in December 2023 and the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in January-February 2024.

The process of forming the new National U19 team started with an open trial being held at all five regions of the country which saw the evaluation of nearly 5,000 players, from where 107 players were initially shortlisted for the recently concluded selection camp in Khost province, where the players divided into 6 teams played 15 games and as a result, a total of 30 players are now selected for the further processes.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board is working towards creating a highly skilled U19 team to participate in various international matches and to be well-prepared for the upcoming ACC U19 Men’s Asia Cup in December 2023 and the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in January-February 2024. The team had a successful run in the last ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, making it to the semi-finals and only losing to England.
