Afghanistan Cricket Board initiated a talent hunt program for finding orphan cricketers in 14 provinces of the country. The initiative will help ACB to find out talented orphan cricketers and will roll them into the national academies available in each province.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board will strive to work with talented players and will invite the best cricketers among them to the National Cricket Academy in Kabul to have more professional training under national coaches.
The best ones among them, with extraordinary capabilities during the period, will have a chance to feature in the National U19s & U17s training camps, from where they can proceed to the final squads as well as more high-performance programs.
The first phase of the talent hunt program will get underway in 14 (Kabul, Nangarhar, Kunar, Khost, Paktia, Ghazni, Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Kunduz, Kapisa, Parwan, Takhar, and Zabul) provinces which will be followed in more provinces accordingly.
ACB CEO Naseeb Khan: “There are more underprivileged players who have dreams of playing cricket but have left playing the game due to their unfavorable economic situations, therefore, the ACB is taking a step forward to hunt those cricketers and then support them to play cricket and somehow manage to achieve their dreams”.
He also talked about the process that the program will begin with a trial in the national academies of each province where the best of them will be selected for the further processes of the program.
Mr. Naseeb Khan also called on the private sector, schools and universities to step into the act and support orphans by providing them with the proper educational facilities, charity movements and if possible employment opportunities.
It’s to mention that only players under the age of 18 years will be considered for selection and about 20 players will be rolled into the national cricket academies in each province.
