The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the governing body for cricket in Afghanistan. It joined the ICC in 2001, became an associate member in 2013, and a full member in 2017. The ACB is also part of the Asian Cricket Council.

Afghanistan Cricket Board announced an organizing committee for conducting the 2nd edition of the Afghanistan Premier League. The committee holds the responsibility for all the initial arrangements, communications with the stakeholders and overall supervision of the league. 

The committee has 6 members and is consisted of the former national allrounder & current chief selector Mr. Mirwais Ashraf, cricket operations manager Mr. Abdul Wali Amin, game development manager Mr. Ahmad Shah, Mr. Mohammad Hamayoon Shahab,Sr.Advisor to Chairman Mr. Mohammad Zarif Abasi and Finance Manager Mr.Mohammad Salam Afghan. 
The first edition of the APLT20 was held back in October 2018 in Sharjah, where 5 teams (Nangarhar Leopards, Kandahar Nights, Paktia Panthers, Kabul Zwanan and Balkh Legends) were part of the event, where Balkh Legends went past Kabul Zwanan in the final and won the inaugural edition of the league.
