The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the governing body for cricket in Afghanistan. It joined the ICC in 2001, became an associate member in 2013, and a full member in 2017. The ACB is also part of the Asian Cricket Council.

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s top management officials, the Chairman Mr. Mirwais Ashraf and the CEO Mr. Naseeb Khan participated in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asian Cricket Council, which was held in Colombo on 19th March 2022. 

After attending the event, Mr. Mirwais Ashraf and Mr. Naseeb Khan met officials from BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket to discuss various aspects of bilateral ties including but not limited to the Super League matches and more bilateral cricket for senior and junior level men’s teams.

The ACB officials met Jay Shah, the General Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and discussed the dates and venues for the three ICC CWC Super League ODIs in India. Both parties have also argued about hosting Afghanistan’s home games in India as well as had fruitful discussions on arranging cricket series for age-level teams on a regular basis.

The Chairman and CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board have also met Shammi Silva, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket to discuss the Super League three ODIs between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka that are planned to be played in early 2023. Both parties have also discussed playing bilateral cricket among senior and junior-level teams in the future.

Besides this, the Afghan delegation has had positive interactions with various ACC Members on providing technical support to each other as well as arranging more cricket series for senior and junior level teams.

Afghanistan has played 3 series in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League so far. The senior men’s team will face India and Sri Lanka in two away series in the future, with the dates and venues to be confirmed soon by the host counties.
