A number of Strikers have been competing in T20 tournaments around the world since the end of the Women’s and Men’s Big Bash seasons.
Spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington’s Fairbreak Invitational side, The Warriors, has won the 2023 edition of the event in Hong Kong.
It was a comprehensive victory for The Warriors, beating the K-Man Falcons by 93 runs.
The Barmy Army’s Deandra Dottin was third on the runscorers list with 201 runs and was Player of the Match for her 75 off 36 balls versus the Spirit in the third place playoff.
Dottin hit more sixes (16) than fours (15) in the tournament.
Strikers teammate Laura Wolvaardt also contributed to The Barmy Army squad that finished in third place.
Opening batter Katie Mack made her tournament debut too, for the South Coast Sapphires.
We’ve also got two Strikers currently competing in the Indian Premier League.
IPL regular Rashid Khan has been back to his old tricks, taking the first hattrick of the tournament.
Playing for the Gujarat Titans, Rashid got the three wickets of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur in consecutive balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
A few matches later, Rashid got another important wicket – his in-form Strikers teammate Matt Short.
After his stellar Player of the Tournament season, Short earned his first IPL contract as an injury replacement player for the Punjab Kings.
He made his debut against the Sunrisers and has since been a regular at first-drop, top-scoring against the Titans with an explosive 36 off 24 balls until he was bowled by a Rashid googly.
With a month to go in the competition, both the Titans and the Kings are currently in the top five of the standings.
This isn’t the first time this year that Strikers have impacted the IPL.
In the inaugural edition of the Women’s IPL, Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath finished in the top three run scorers of the competition with 302 runs.
She top-scored twice for her side UP Warriorz, with a 90* off 50 balls and a 58* off 32 both against the Delhi Capitals, as she helped her team make the playoffs.
Wolvaardt also featured in the WPL and hit two half centuries for the Gujarat Giants, 68 (42) versus Royal Challengers Bangalore and 57 (45) versus Delhi.
Recently crowned Strikers WBBL MVP Megan Schutt took four wickets for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who finished fourth in the tournament.
