Amongst the carnage, Matt Short took one of the best catches seen at first slip while Harry Nielsen took five catches, the equal most by a wicketkeeper in the Big Bash.

New Year’s Eve returns with a bang

Adelaide’s biggest and best New Year’s Eve party returned with a bang at Adelaide Oval, with over 40,000 fans finishing their year with the Strikers. The Strikers broke another record in BBL|12 – the highest successful run chase in Big Bash history. Set 230 runs to win by the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval, 27 boundaries were hit including four sixes each from Chris Lynn (64 runs off 29 balls at a strike rate of 220) and Adam Hose (38 off 22). However, the biggest contribution came from Matt Short in his first game as Strikers captain, who carried his bat and hit a four to bring up not only the winning runs, but also his maiden BBL century.

Winning the BKT Golden Bat award for most runs in the competition with 458, Short also took 11 wickets and seven catches and earned selection in the Team of the Tournament.
