Adelaide Strikers quick Darcie Brown has been named the rebel WBBL|06 Young Gun, the award given to the best player under 21 years of age during the tournament.

Brown collected ten wickets during the competition, with her best figures of 3/13 coming in her debut on the WBBL stage. Brown’s maiden wicket was one for the scrapbook as she swung one through the gate to rattle Nicola Carey’s stumps during the Strikers’ victory over the Hurricanes.

Maintaining line and length throughout, Brown was also extremely economical with the ball, finishing with an economy rate of just 5.52 runs per over, the fourth-lowest of all players.

At just 17, Brown has stepped onto the national stage with a bang this season, a performance headlined by express pace and an infectious love for the game. In addition to taking wickets, Brown also recorded two run-outs and a brilliant catch during the tournament.

As if debuting in a national competition wasn’t enough, Brown has also been undertaking her Year 12 studies within the confines of the Sydney Village that all players have called home during the tournament.

The winner of the rebel Young Gun is not simply judged on on-field performance, but also their off-field efforts, sportsmanship and attitude in the contest. Anyone with first-hand knowledge of Brown would not be surprised at the decision to etch her name onto the prestigious award.

Strikers Head Coach Luke Williams was delighted to hear the talented youngster was to be recognised for her season:

“This was an extremely unusual season and although we didn’t qualify for the finals series, there were many positives for us this year. Darcie Brown is one of those success stories and I can’t wait for everyone to see just what she is capable of in the years to come.”

Previous winners include stars of the game such as Sophie Molineux, Hannah Darlington, Georgia Wareham, Ashleigh Gardener and Lauren Cheatle, certainly illustrious company for Brown to join.

Other nominees this season were Rachel Trenaman, Amy Smith, Courtney Webb and Phoebe Litchfield who all had superb tournaments in their own right.
