The South Australian Cricket Association are pleased to announce that Luke Williams, the highly regarded back-to-back WBBL Strikers Championship-winning Head Coach, will continue his reign at the helm of the dominant side. Williams will also join the BBL Strikers as Assistant Coach, further solidifying his influence and expertise within the cricketing world. The dual roles will lock Williams into the Strikers leadership positions for at least the next three years. In addition, Williams’ influence will be felt across South Australia’s state programs across the year.
Williams has showcased his coaching expertise on the international stage by guiding Royal Challengers Bangalore to an eight wicket win over Delhi Capitals in last month’s WPL Final, and was Assistant Coach with the Southern Brave when they won the most recent instalment of the Hundred in the UK.
SACA CEO Charlie Hodgson is excited about the dual role for Williams.
“We are extremely proud and excited to have Luke continue his successful journey with the WBBL Strikers and expand his role to include that of BBL Assistant Coach,” Hodgson said.
“Luke has proven himself to be one of the leading coaches on the world stage and we are thrilled to have him within South Australian cricket.”
In his dual capacity as Head Coach of the WBBL Strikers and BBL Assistant Coach, Williams will bring his wealth of experience, strategic vision, and passion for the game to both teams. Williams’ appointment will additionally afford him the opportunity to pursue international coaching duties throughout the year.
The appointment will also see Williams step down from the role of Head Coach of the South Australian Women’s Team following a tenure that produced back-to-back WNCL Grand Final appearances.
“I have loved my time coaching these incredible women and I have no doubt they will continue to do remarkable things in the future under new leadership. While stepping away from my role as Head Coach of the South Australia Women’s team I am thrilled to remain involved in the women’s program and support their success in a different capacity,” Williams said.
“I’m excited to be taking on a dual role, continuing as Head Coach of the WBBL Strikers and embarking on a new journey with the BBL Strikers. I’m incredibly grateful to SACA for their continued support, which also allows me to pursue my international coaching commitments.”
The SACA will commence recruitment for a new Head Coach for the South Australian Women’s Team. Williams will stay in his current role to assist with that process until its completion.
