The Adelaide Strikers are an Australian professional Twenty20 cricket team based in Adelaide, South Australia, competing in the Big Bash League (BBL). Established in 2011, they succeeded the Southern Redbacks, who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The Strikers play their home games at the Adelaide Oval and wear a cornflower blue uniform.

True to her position on the field, veteran Tegan McPharlin is a keeper for the Adelaide Strikers, inking a one-year contract extension ahead of Weber WBBL|07.

A member of the Strikers’ inaugural squad and a former captain, McPharlin is synonymous with South Australian cricket and the 33-year-old’s passion for the game is only growing stronger.

“I am very excited to wear the blue again this season. It’s a bit of a pinch myself moment to think I’ll be suiting up to play in WBBL|07. It’s been a long pre-season, so definitely looking forward to kicking things off, getting out squad together and working with our quality coaches and support staff, who provide an unbelievable environment for us to play our best cricket.

“Hopefully this season we will be able to play in front of our family, friends and fans after the unusual conditions last year. I simply can’t wait!”

McPharlin earned player of the match honours in a thriller against Sydney Sixers last season, crashing an unbeaten 41 from 26 deliveries batting eighth. The Strikers had just 56 on the board when McPharlin strode to the middle, but the brilliantly damaging performance ensured a competitive total that converted into a 14-run victory for Adelaide.

One of the most energetic players in the game, McPharlin can often be spotted performing an involuntary leap of joy at the fall of an opposition wicket, something born from an innate desire to celebrate a teammates success. The very definition of a team-player, McPharlin’s imprint is clear to see within the Strikers squad.

Luke Williams, McPharlin’s Head Coach in both the WBBL and WNCL, speaks highly of everything the respected seventh-year Striker brings to the squad.

“Tegan is a true professional who does all the right things off-field and consistently performs on-field; she has been a leader within South Australian cricket for a long time and a Striker since day one. Tegan contributes so much to both the culture and performance of our team, so we couldn’t be happier to keep her in blue.”

The Adelaide Strikers list for the Weber WBBL|07 has grown increasingly strong in the past week, with South African international Laura Wolvaardt, allrounder Sarah Coyte and Canberra-based duo Katie Mack and Maddie Penna all penning new deals to join the likes of Darcie Brown, Bridget Patterson and Amanda-Jade Wellington.
