The Adelaide Strikers have successfully locked away another local talent, with young gun Annie O’Neil recommitting ahead of Weber WBBL|08.
A commanding middle-order bat, the South Australian native is set to remain in Adelaide for the next two seasons.
Making her T20 debut in WBBL|05, O’Neil has continued to impress at state level.
Playing every game for South Australia last summer, the 23-year-old produced several vital performances with the bat, highlighted by a knock of 48 from 37 deliveries – including seven boundaries and a six – to steer the Scorpions to victory against Western Australia.
Amassing 249 runs for Sturt last summer, O’Neil remains one of Premier Cricket’s most consistent performers.
Thankful for the opportunity to remain in her home state, O’Neil is excited for the summer ahead:
‘Having grown up in South Australia, I am so proud to represent the Strikers and am thrilled at the opportunity to sign this new deal.
‘This is a special group that I am extremely happy to be a part of and I am looking forward to getting out there and seeing what we can achieve.’
Strikers Head Coach Luke Williams says he’s excited to see O’Neil back in blue for the season ahead:
‘It is great to welcome Annie back to the Strikers; she has been within the South Australian system for a few years now and is going from strength to strength.
‘We know that Annie can play a variety of roles for us with the bat, in addition to bringing an exceptional work ethic and competitive attitude.’
O’Neil joins international stars Laura Wolvaardt and Deandra Dottin signing on in recent days as the Strikers squad nears full-strength.
Adelaide Strikers WBBL|08 squad so far: Jemma Barsby, Darcie Brown, Deandra Dottin, Tahlia McGrath, Tegan McPharlin, Annie O’Neil, Bridget Patterson, Maddie Penna, Megan Schutt, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Laura Wolvaardt.
