Megan Schutt says her Adelaide Strikers team-mates will be ready for life in the Sydney Olympic Park ‘Village’ which will help stage rebel WBBL|06.
Speaking prior to her team’s departure at Adelaide Airport on Tuesday, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup winner expressed her excitement at the unique nature of this year’s competition.
“The beauty of it is we have a team that really enjoy each other’s company and thank gosh for that because I think six weeks with a team you didn’t like would be hell,” Schutt said.
“I think it’s actually exciting doing something different from the domestic schedule of flying Sydney, flying Brisbane…
“From what I’ve heard they’ve got all areas covered so I’m actually pretty excited.”
Schutt enters the sixth edition of the Women’s Big Bash League as the Strikers’ equal-leading wicket-taker.
The Australian strike bowler shares the feat with leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, both incredibly with 63 wickets in 71 matches.
Schutt believes the Strikers will be set for Sunday’s season opener against the Hobart Hurricanes after what will be two weeks of training with the bulk of the squad.
“(Preparation) has been really good, I’m really glad we got the week together to train and obviously some of the internationals have some freedom now,” she said.
“We had a good week of training (in Adelaide) but hopefully it’s a bit warmer in Sydney.
‘I think we’ve got the firepower, and the same core group that we’ve had for a while now and that often leads to success.”
The Strikers will first play the Hurricanes on Sunday at Hurstville Oval, before a mouth-watering clash with the Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval on Monday.
Both matches will be available via Cricket Australia and Kayo live-stream.
